NEW DELHI: National women's champion and 534th-ranked Sanaa Bhambri upset the 275th-ranked fifth seed Ayami Takase of Japan 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women's circuit tennis tournament in Seoul on Tuesday. Earlier, the 17-year-old Sanaa had dropped a mere six games in three rounds in the qualifying event as she beat two Koreans and a Japanese girl. Sanaa's elder sister, Ankita, was equally impressive as she beat Thassha Vitayaviroj of Thailand 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) in another first round encounter. Ankita had a tough route to the main draw as she got past Hae-Sung Kim of Korea 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 6-3 in the final qualifying round after dropping three games in all in the first two rounds against local girls. The 330th-ranked Rushmi Chakravarthi, seeded eighth, lost 6-3, 1-6, 4-6 to Akiko Yonemura of Japan.
