Tania beats Eesha

NEW DELHI: Tania Sachdev defeated Eesha Karavade to join three Hungarian leaders with two points after three rounds of the First Saturday chess tournament at Budapest.

Looking for her final Woman Grandmaster norm from this 11-player round-robin event, Tania drew the first two rounds with fourth-seeded International Master Attila Jakab (2448) and joint top seed Grandmaster Ivan Farago (2476), both from Hungary. Tania needs three more points from the remaining seven rounds to become a WGM.

Eesha, however, is yet to open her account. She lost the previous two rounds to German IM Michael Hoffman (2476) and third-seeded Hungarian GM Attila Czebe (2473).

The results (third round): Michael Hoffman (Ger, 1.5) drew with William Paschall (U.S., 1); Attila Czebe (Hun, 2) drew with Denes Boros (Hun, 2); Tania Sachdev (Ind, 2) bt Eesha Karavade (Ind, 0); Lajos Seres (Hun, 1.5) drew with Ivan Farago (Hun, 1.5); Zdenko Stupavsky (Scg, 0.5) lost to Attila Jakab (Hun, 2); Dimo Werner (Ger, 1 — bye). — Special Correspondent
