PATHANAMTHITTA: The Thiruvalla police will resume registration of the migrant labour population in the police station limits soon. According to Circle Inspector of Police Sunil Jacob, Thiruvalla got a large number of migrant labour population, especially from the bordering areas of Tamil Nadu. There were reports that many of them had shady backgrounds. The police started registration of the migrant labours a few years ago and there were reports of subsequent fleeing of many workers attached to various construction groups in the locality. The police suspect migration of many criminal elements from the border areas as casual workers in the construction field and farmlands in Central Travancore following the Gulf boom. According to the CI, the modus operandi of the burglars in most of the housebreak cases in the locality was almost similar. The police have been closely monitoring the situation. He said that the night patrol has already been intensified in the police station limits. Mr. Sunil said that the police would issue photo-identity cards, which also carry the thumb impression and permanent address, to each migrant worker in the police station limits. The police would also collect all the necessary background information about the migrant population from the respective local police stations, he added. Meanwhile, there were reports that the serial-burglary-hit Kuttoor village had recorded three more housebreak attempts on Monday night.
