Panel to sort out land disputes on a war-footing

Officials asked to settled problems in ten days


  • None to be allowed to possess land illegally
  • Loans at 3 per cent interest for urban women too
  • Government to construct 90 social welfare hostels

    TIRUPATI: The Government's Land Committee, headed by the Minister for Municipal Administration, Koneru Ranga Rao, on Tuesday visited some villages in the eastern mandals of Chittoor district for a first hand information on disputes they were caught in and tackle them.

    Besides Mr. Rao, the high power committee comprised the Minister for Social Welfare, Reddya Naik, Poththuri Venkateswara Rao, Purushothama Rao and T. Gopal Rao.

    It had been assigned the task of ensuring speedy disposal of disputes concerning Government lands.

    The panel visited the Vidyut Sadasivapuram village in the Puttur mandal and interacted with officials concerned and public.

    In an informal chat with mediapersons at the village, Mr. Ranga Rao said that the Collector, the Joint Collector and the SP had been asked to sort-out all the land disputes to the extent possible in the next ten days.

    He asserted that there was no question of letting anyone possess Government land unauthorisedly.

    "This is the minimum we could do to sustain people's confidence in the district administration and legal apparatus," he said. The Collector, S.S.Rawat, and the Joint Collector, Rajendra Prasad, participated in the panel's on-field studies.

    New mandal office

    Earlier, Mr. Ranga Rao declared open the Rs.35-lakh mandal parishat complex while Reddya Naik inaugurated the Mandal Revenue Office built at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs at Vadamalpet.

    The Social Welfare Minister said that the Government had decided to extend to urban women also on par with their rural counterparts loans at 3 per cent interest.

    He also disclosed that the Government would be constructing 90 social welfare hostels exclusively for the benefit of the college goers.
