  • Occasion to be made a momentous one
  • Test to gauge eligibility for different classes
  • Exercise to involve all sections
  • Incentives for teachers

ANANTAPUR: The district administration is planning to give `Anantha Badi Baata,' a programme designed to enrol school dropouts and encourage admission of all children completing five years to schools, a traditional touch by conducting `Aksharabhyasam' for the children of poor parents on June 13.

Giving details on the `Anantha Badi Baata,' the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, told mediapersons here on Tuesday that as part of the Badi Baata all school dropouts would be identified and encouraged to join regular schools and all the children completing five years would also be admitted to the schools.

Children below eight years currently enrolled in residential bridge schools and NCLP schools would be admitted to regular schools, based on their capabilities. A test would be conducted for these children and school dropouts to find out their eligibility for different classes, she said. All children eligible for admission to the first standard would be given a school bag, a slate and two chalk pieces as incentive as part of the `Aksharabhyasam.'

    Festive spirit

The programme would be conducted in a festive atmosphere so that the children and their parents could remember the day. The children would be given sweets and taught small poems and rhymes on day one.

After admitting children below eight from the RBSC and NCLP schools only to regular schools, students in the age group of nine to 14 years would be admitted to such schools henceforth, the Collector explained. Children from the RBSC and NCLP schools who would be admitted to regular schools would also be given preference in hostel admission.

School teachers, village organisations, self-help groups, Mahila Samakhyas and Anganwadi workers would also be involved in the exercise to identify the school dropouts and unenrolled children in the school-going age from June 6 to 11.

    Merit certificates

Three teachers in each of the 63 mandals would be given merit certificates for enrolling the highest number of children. Besides, cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 each would be given to a teacher for enrolling the highest number of girls, including dropouts and unenrolled children and to a cluster of schools with highest enrolments. The Zilla Parishad Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, stated that there were about 30,000 school dropouts in the district. He urged about 10,000 teachers to take the responsibility of enrolling at least three children each.
