JD(S) bags most seats in APMCs in Bellary

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: The Janata Dal (Secular) has gained an upper hand over its rivals by bagging more number of seats in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) in Bellary district.

Out of the total 62 seats, the Janata Dal (S) sponsored candidates have been elected in 35 seats spread over five APMCs. The party has gained majority in three out of the total five APMCs.

The Congress Party emerged second. The performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had managed to defeat the Congress in the last Parliamentary elections by winning the Bellary Lok Sabha constituency and three Assembly segments, was very poor.

The Janata Dal (S) sponsored candidates won in Hadagali by securing 11 out of the total 12 seats.

In Bellary, they won nine out of the total 13 seats; and in Sirguppa, six out of the total 12 seats.

The Congress, on the other hand, gained control over two APMCs. It bagged seven seats at Hagari Bommanahalli and an equal number in Hospet. The number of seats won by it in the other APMCs include two in Bellary and one each in Hadagali and Sirguppa.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had be content with a total of six seats. The only consolation for the Bharatiya Janata Party was when four of its sponsored candidates emerged successful in Sirguppa.

Counting of votes was held in the respective taluk headquarters.
