KOCHI: The Government on Tuesday informed the High Court that the notification delinking certain areas in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and Thalassery Municipality was legal. In an affidavit filed in response to a batch of writ petitions challenging its decision, the Government said that the decision had been taken after considering all aspects of the issue. The decision was taken in the interest of the people. The affidavit said that the Government had the power to declare any area as village.
Bail plea dismissed
Justice R. Basant dismissed an anticipatory bail petition filed by Dincy K.J., a woman from Irinjalakuda involved in a case relating to cheating of General Motors, Kozhikode, by making false representations.
Conduct inquiry
Justice K. Balakrishan Nair has ordered the Railways to conduct an inquiry into a complaint against the Circle Inspector and Sub Inspector of Ernakulam South Railway police. The complaint was field by T.G.N. Kumar and his friend. According to Mr. Kumar, he was abused by the police when he was waiting for the Guruvayur-Chennai Express at South Railway Station in April, 2003.
Stay order
Justice M. Sasidharan Nambair has stayed proceedings in the defamation case filed against the Asianet, India Vision, and the parents of sister Abhaya for telecast of a statement made by the latter in connection with the Abhaya case. The case was filed by Jomon Puthenpurackal. According to him, the statements were per se defamatory to him.
