Three women drowned in Buckingham canal

GUNTUR: Three women were drowned in Buckingham canal at Kolanukonda in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district on Tuesday while they were taking bath. They were identified as Mathi Nagamani, 24, of Jonnalagadda village, Bellapu Rajani, 16, and Gollapati Tripurasundari, 13.

Man, son electrocuted in freak mishap

KURNOOL: In a freak mishap, a man and his son were electrocuted at Nandyal checkpost area in the city in the early hours of Tuesday. Linganna (50) came out to watch following barking of dogs around 3 am. When he touched the iron fence he was electrocuted. His son, Hussain (27) who came to his rescue was also electrocuted.

Lightning kills one

KURNOOL: A person, identified as Nagi Reddy, was struck dead by lightening at R. Konthalapadu near here on Tuesday. Three other sustained injuries. According to reports, a group of people were conducting land survey in the field when the mishap occurred.

Woman seeking sale of child nabbed

Kakinada: The I Town police have taken into custody a woman, Sakinala Lakshmi (60) of Durgada village while she was making enquiries at the maternity ward of the government general hospital here whether any child would be available for sale for giving adoption to some affluent people.

Basing on the complaint lodged by the Hospital Superintendent, the SI of One town Police station P.Muralikrishna Reddy took her into custody pending further investigation.

IA to resume flights to Singapore

VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian Airlines is resuming its direct thrice-a-week flights to Singapore from Hyderabad from Saturday. According to an IA release, the Airbus A-320 flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The IC-561 flight will leave Hyderabad on those days at 5.30 a.m. and reach Singapore 12.50 p.m. (local time). In the return direction, IC-562 will take off at Singapore at 1.50 p.m. (local time) and touch Hyderabad at 4 p.m.

IA has already introduced twice-a-week direct flights to Bangkok from Hyderabad, with an Airbus A-320, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For bookings and other details, passengers can contact the main booking office at Hyderabad (Tel: 23235111/23430320/23430321) or approved travel agents.

IA has introduced a 24-hour Helpline (1407) for flight information and booking details.

Court ruling on fish

medicine hailed

CUDDAPAH: The Jana Vignana Vedika district secretary, M. Adiseshu, on Tuesday welcomed the Andhra Pradesh High Court ruling that the popular fish medicine did not contain any medicine to cure asthma.

The court directed the Government to publicise by way of banners and through the media about the inefficacy of fish medicine, he said in a statement. `Battina brothers'should file a counter affidavit citing the ingredients and formula of the fish medicine and in what manner it worked against asthma, Dr. Adiseshu said.__Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Government on Tuesday transferred six Assistant Commandants of Andhra Pradesh Special Police (A.P.S.P.) and gave them new postings. Details of the transferred officers with new postings in brackets are as follows: J. Srisailam and Sk. Sirajuddin (First battalion, Hyderabad), Y. Srinivasa Rao (Eighth battalion, Kondapur), G. Property destroyed

in fire accident

NELLORE: Property valued at more than Rs. 25,000 was destroyed in a fire accident in the interior Agarthakatta area of Rapur mandal on Monday at a colony inhabited by Challa Yanadis. The fire completely damaged four thatched houses, rendering the inhabitants, most of whom are labourers, homeless. __Staff Reporter
