ON THE GO: An ACB official carrying the documents seized from the house of the former Endowments Commissioner, I. Venkateswarlu, after a raid at Prashasannagar in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials investigating the temple land scam raided the residences of higher-ups of the Endowments Department, including that of the former Endowments Commissioner, I. Venkateswarlu, here on Tuesday.

Three special teams swooped down on the houses of Venkateswarlu at Prashasannagar in Banjara Hills, the present Joint Commissioner of Endowments (Estates), Ramakrishna Kumar, in Nallakunta and Deputy Commissioner, Mohana Chary, in Santoshnagar on Tuesday morning.

The teams, headed by ACB Superintendents of Police -- Shashidhar Reddy and Surya Prakash -- continued the searches till evening. However, they remained tight-lipped about the findings except confirming the search.

Sources said that documents pertaining to the temple land scam were seized from the house of Venkateswarlu and some of the papers indicated that the lands were illegally regularised. "These documents are not supposed to be in his house though he earlier headed the Endowments Department," a police officer said.

The former Endowments official, his wife and three sons were present when the ACB team arrived at his house. Statements of the bank balances and other properties owned by the senior bureaucrat were also being verified. It is learnt that the former Endowments Commissioner had a sericulture farm at Vayalpadu mandal in Chittor district in the name of his wife. He also had a plot in Guntur.
