APPSC not to scrap Group-I examination

Special Correspondent

Chairman denies leak of question paper

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) made it clear on Tuesday that there would be no postponement or cancellation of the remaining papers of the Group-I examination on the basis of media reports.

The commission strongly denied that Telugu paper I and II had leaked as reported by a section of the media for the second consecutive day. Addressing a press conference, the Secretary of the APPSC, Harpreet Singh, along with other members dismissed the reports, which carried the purported question paper as `intelligent guess work' by unidentified persons to create confusion among candidates.

Asserting that there was no leakage of the paper, he said, "If the whole paper appears as it is before the examination it will be treated as a leak."

He said the Chief Minister had summoned him to discuss the issue. "We told the Chief Minister that what appeared in the newspaper and the original paper were different," he pointed out. He said the APPSC Members had, after studying the reports, come to a conclusion that there was no leak.

When reporters pointed out that certain questions in the question paper and the "leaked'' paper that appeared in the dailies tallied, he agreed to refer the matter to a subject expect and ask him to submit his report in 24 hours. Even the Public Administration paper was referred to a subject expert, who, in his report, denied the leak and pointed out that the questions, which had appeared in the newspapers and the examination, were different.

The answers were also different and concluded that it was intelligent guesswork by some persons. The police after preliminary enquiry also stated that there was no leak.
