SANGAREDDY: Alarmed by the spurt in accidents on highways, the district road safety committee met here on Wednesday and decided to crack its whip on violators of traffic rules in Medak district. The Superintendent of police, B.L. Sujatha Rao, later briefing the reporters said action will be taken on those three-wheeler and jeep drivers who overload and operate on highways. He announced that a special awareness week would be conducted till June 15, through which a thorough check for driving licences will be taken. Action would be initiated on those roadside dhabas that supply liquor to customers.
Compensation
The District Collector, B. Venkatesam, said the kin of victims of hit-and-run cases could be given Rs. 25,000 from the Solution Fund and extra blood should be kept ready in hospitals to save precious lives. He said spots of congestion due to cattle fares close to highways have been identified and efforts would be made to shift them to the interiors. He announced that hereafter, the committee would meet every month and review the results. The committee also decided to organise health check-ups to drivers in different parts of the district.
