Knife wielding robbers make off with Rs. 1 lakh

Robbers brandishing knives escape

CHENNAI: Two unidentified men stole Rs. 1 lakh in cash from Vardhaman, an employee of a private company, while he was waiting in an auto rickshaw near the Anna Salai Dargah on Monday.

Mr. Vardhaman was carrying Rs. 3 lakhs to be deposited in a nationalised bank, police said. The thieves, who were carrying knives, brushed aside Mr. Vardhaman's attempts to resist them and cut open the bag in which the cash was kept and removed two bundles of Rs. 500 notes totalling Rs. 1 lakh.

Futile chase

Mr. Vardhaman's attempted to chase them without success.

He filed a complaint with the Triplicane police, who are investigating the robbery.
