MEET: Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University Vice- Chancellor C.V. Bhirmanandham greets Ingemar Ihse of the University of Lund.
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University has signed a Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) with the University of Lund in Sweden to undertake HIV/AIDS studies among infected adults and children. The Rs. 30-lakh study will focus on the effects of bovine colostrum food product on HIV-associated diarrhoea, according to a press release from Vice-Chancellor C.V. Bhirmanandham, who signed the MoU with Ingemar Ihse representing the University of Lund. The research study in developed countries and developing nations such as Nigeria showed that the administration of bovine colostrum without antibiotics had a positive effect on recurrent diarrhoea and improved the immune system of the patients. If similar results were observed among Indian patients it would be a boon to those suffering from HIV infection, the press release said. The protocol has been prepared jointly and the University of Lund will fund the study.
