BANGALORE: The Additional Director-General of Police (Training and Recruitment), Ajai Kumar Singh, who has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, has a doctorate in Hindi literature from Bangalore University. He has two books in Hindi to his credit Allama Aur Kabir, a comparative study on the works of the two great poet-philosophers, and Ped Ki Chaya Door Hain, an anthology of poems.
From Uttar Pradesh
Dr. Singh, who hails from Nagala Kothi village in Mainipuri district of Uttar Pradesh, has written several short stories, poems and lyrical essays in Hindi, some of which have been translated into Kannada and published.
Writers' company
Dr. Singh grew up in the company of great Hindi writers such as Mahadevi Verma, Sumitranandan Pant, Naresh Mehta, Raghunath Roy, Firaq Gorakhpuri and others while he was pursuing his master's degree in political science at Allahabad University during 1969-70.
Experiences
"My love for literature has helped me in dealing with my colleagues, the public and also criminals in a better manner. Similarly, my job as a policeman has taken me to the best and worst people and situations that have provided subjects for my writing," he says. Dr. Singh, who began his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Panambur, has served as Superintendent of Police of a few districts, Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, and Inspector-General of Police (Intelligence). He also supervised the functioning of the anti-rowdy squad in Bangalore.
