NEW DELHI: It may have been just a day since the Bihar School Examination Board announced the Class XII examination results, but Delhi University already seems to be feeling the heat. With the State examination board "turning down'' the University's request for a soft copy of the Class XII results, a trip to the Resident Commissioner's office may be hard to duck even this time round for the State's students. One of the most common problems faced by outstation students when seeking admission in the premier varsity, Delhi University's attempt to replace the age old practice with a techno friendly mechanism may have gone down well with neighbouring States, but clearly not with the Bihar School Examination Board. "Since the results had come out only yesterday, we called them today and asked them to send us a soft copy of their results so we could verify the results of students applying to us directly. This would have meant that students don't have to go to the resident commissioner to get their certificates verified. But they simply turned it down saying they cannot be possibly sending soft copies to the 50-odd universities that Bihar students apply to,'' said a shocked University official. According to the University, the response from other State education boards such as those from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan has been much better with all agreeing of them to deliver the information on a compact disc. University officials said they would be sending a written request to the Bihar School Examination Board seeking a copy of the results. Students from Bihar make up for a majority of the University's outstation students and with most of them looking for not just a seat but also cheap accommodation, officials say they only wanted to make things easier for the thousands who are likely to come from the State in the coming weeks.
