Two killed, three hurt as car overturns
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when Vivek, son of a Paschim Vihar government school principal, was on his way home along with his four friends, later identified as Shantu, Satbir and Bhola, after reportedly attending a party somewhere in South Delhi. Driving down Prithviraj Road, Vivek tried to negotiate a turn towards South End when he lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The vehicle was dragged some distance before coming to a halt. Some passers-by informed the police about the incident. Subsequently, the injured were rushed to Lohia Hospital where Vivek and Shantu were declared dead on arrival. While the other three were kept under observation, Satbir's condition was stated to be serious as he had sustained injuries on the head and other parts of the body. Initial investigations revealed that Vivek was driving the vehicle.
Three electrocuted
The police said a 15-year-old girl, Pooja, was killed when she came in contact with a love wire near B-54 in OkhlaIn another incident, a 24-year-old man, Ansar, who is a native of Karbala Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, was found lying dead in a pool of water in Viskwa Karma Colony in Sangam Vihar. He too had been electrocuted by a live wire that had snapped. The third death also took place in South Delhi when a scooterist, 40-year-old Aadesh Kumar, a resident of Gupta Colony in Okhla, was hit by a falling live wire near his home.
Tragedy averted
At 3-30 p.m. the train left New Delhi station for Dehra Dun. However, when the train reached Anand Vihar station in East Delhi, some passengers in a coach near the pantry car noticed some smoke in the gallery. They immediately raised an alarm and the train was stopped. During inspection, a minor fire was noticed in one of the wheels of the coach that was immediately doused by the railway staff.
Rape accused remanded
The Metropolitan Magistrate, S.K. Srivastava, remanded Sanjv, Deepak and Ravinder to three days' judicial custody when the Mehrauli police produced them before the court. The Mehrauli police had arrested them on Monday following a complaint by the brother-in-law of the victim and the latter's medical examination. The victim along with her brother-in-law had gone for a walk in the area. The accused had beaten the girl as well as threatened her not to disclose the incident.
