dated June 9, 1955: Engg. colleges warned

The Bombay Government has warned private engineering colleges in the State against adopting malpractices in admitting students to degree courses. In a press note issued on June 7, the Government said that it was aware that in some instances "admissions are not made strictly on merit and that exorbitant fees in one form or another are being charged in some cases from candidates desiring admission to these colleges." It said admissions to engineering degree courses should be strictly on merit and fees charged according to the scale laid down in the prospectus.
