COLOMBO: Hardliners opposing Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga's proposal for a Post-Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam stepped up their campaign on Wednesday with the National Bhikku Front (NBF) starting a "fast unto death" here. Calling for the withdrawal of the proposal, the NBF known to be the Buddhist clergy wing of the left-nationalist ruling ally, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), seven monks sat down for the fast protest. The monks termed the proposal an "anti-national move," and that it would lead to the "division of the country."
