Give concessional marks to CBSE students, says BJP

"Admissions should be made transparent"

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday took up the cause of students of the Central Board of Secondary Education saying they should receive some concession as the syllabus was tougher than that of the State Board.

"The CBSE students can be provided five marks as concession at the time of admission to professional courses," C.P. Radhakrishnan, State BJP president, said. Welcoming the Government's move to scrap the common entrance test, he said the admission to the courses should be made in a transparent manner. Once the process was completed, the lists of admitted students should be publicised. He urged the State Government to ensure that private colleges adhered to the reservation system in the admission process.

The BJP leader said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Democratic Progressive Alliance should see to it that the State's cause was safeguarded in the Cauvery issue.

Advani issue

Urging the party president, L.K. Advani, to reconsider his decision to quit, Mr. Radhakrishnan said Mr. Advani was an "outstanding nationalist." If he could be called a betrayer, no one in the country could be called a patriot. The purpose of his visit to Pakistan was to promote friendly relations.
