PONDICHERRY: In a few months, the new bus stand in the town will sport a fresh look as the Government is planning to develop the vacant space at the centre into a garden-cum-park. A clock tower is also being planned. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy visited the spot on Tuesday and instructed the Public Works Department to submit a plan at the earliest. The PWD will submit the plan in a few days and work is expected to start immediately after the approval. About 2,000 sq ft of the vacant space would be beautified. The bus stand will have more basic amenities for the commuters, which is at present minimal. A separate toilet is also being planned in the bus stand.
Two parks
As part of the beautification of the entire town and giving recreational facilities, two parks are also being planned at Muthialpet and Pudhupet. Also, the process of giving a green cover to the town is expected to get a push in the coming days. Around 3,500 saplings would be planted on either side of the roads in places such as Lawspet. P. Devaraj, Deputy Conservator of Forest, told The Hindu that the planting of the trees would start after summer. A same number of trees would also be planted along the Cuddalore Road, Tindivanam and ECR. Trees such as Peltophorem, Kanyal, Neem and Banyan would be planted.
