Bail denied to ABVP activists

Staff Reporter

They were arrested for vandalising Vigyan Bhavan

NEW DELHI: A court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to 56 Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists who were arrested on Tuesday for vandalising the Vigyan Bhavan here. The activists were protesting against the proceedings of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), convened to discuss the draft National Curriculum Framework.

Metropolitan Magistrate Siddharth Sharma remanded them to judicial custody till June 22.

Police had opposed their bail applications, submitting that the activists destroyed and damaged antique paintings, plants, tables, sofas and crockery and caused losses worth crores of rupees. Photographs of the damaged articles were shown to the court.
