Socialist Morcha formed

HYDERABAD: The newly-formed Socialist Morcha, believes that no political party has ever subscribed to the four principles of democracy, socio-economic justice, secularism and nationalism.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, the forum co-convener Jaya Vindhyala, said that due to disintegration of the social movement no political party had tolerated internal democracy. __Special Correspondent

Orient Cement

HYDERABAD. Orient Cement, a division of the Orient Paper and Industries Limited and part of the C.K. Birla Group of Companies, has bagged the "Cleaner Production Award" of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board on June 5, the World Environment Day.

The award was presented in the presence of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and received by the company's executive vice-president, Bhagwat Pandey, from the Minister for Forests and Environment, S. Vijayarama Raju, a press release said.__Staff Reporter

Medicos strike continues

NELLORE: Despite the strike by junior doctors of Narayana Medical College, Nellore, entering the 6th day on Wednesday, there appears to be no scope for an amicable settlement in near future. Scores of people from different sections of society extended support to the agitating students. Meanwhile, negotiations between the two sides, which were held on Wednesday, did not yield any result with the management sticking to its stand of providing only free accommodation and not in a mood to provide boarding facility and stipend. __Staff Reporter

Boy drowns in water tank

CUDDAPAH: An eight-year-old boy, Amanullah Khan, was drowned in a large uncovered water tank at a police guesthouse under construction in Cooperative Colony on Wednesday. His body was recovered with the help of a fire tender. The Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, visited the place. __Staff Reporter

Agriculturist

axed to death

ADILABAD: R. Sayanna, 50, an agriculturist of Laxmanchanda mandal head quarter, was axed to death allagedly by T. Rajeshwar, 27, of the same village suspecting him to have indulged in witchcraft. Rajeshwar's father had died due to ill health, but the son believed that Sayanna had caused his death by sorcery. __Staff Reporter

Applications invited

for teacher award

GUNTUR: Applications have been invited from eligible teachers for the State-level `Best Teacher Award-2005' from the National Foundation for Teachers' Welfare. The awards will be presented on the Teacher's Day in Hyderabad, said the District Education Officer (DEO), T. Lakshmirajyam, here on Wednesday.

The applications should be sent to the DEO's Office through the Deputy Education Officer/Mandal Education Officer concerned before June 30. __Staff Reporter

Protests against

paper leak

HYDERABAD: Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday burnt an effigy of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) protesting against the alleged leakage of the Group - I examination paper.

The DYFI activists burnt the effigy at the RTC cross roads and raised slogans against the APPSC. They demanded cancellation of the examination and conducting it afresh on the ground that the Public Administration and Telugu papers had been leaked. The SFI members also burnt the effigy of the Commission in front of the Osmania University Arts College. The student's later obstructed the traffic near the college following which 12 of them were taken into custody. The students demanded action against those responsible for the paper leak. Eye camp held

CHITTOOR: The Deputy Transport Commissioner, Sanath Kumar, inaugurated a free eye camp organised by the Lions Club on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for organising such a camp exclusively for drivers of heavy vehicles. The Lions Club president, Vijaya Kumar, the secretary, Muralidhar, and others were present. - Correspondent

KURNOOL: Two persons died and 10 others were hurt when an auto and a truck collided near Dhone in the district on Wednesday.

KURNOOL: A debt-ridden farmer, Bhaskar Reddy, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Dhone on Wednesday.

ABVP demand

WARANGAL: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that the Government streamline the admission procedure, fee structure and syllabus of all schools and colleges.
