HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party has advised the Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to clear his name in three alleged scandals before levelling accusations against the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and his son, Jaganmohan Reddy, in the temple land scam. The Government Chief Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and CLP members, R. Suryaprakash, J. Krishna Rao, and Vamsi Krishna, at a press conference here on Wednesday challenged Mr. Naidu to prove the allegations. It would be better for Mr. Naidu to get a clean chit from the courts in the liquor issue, case relating to his assets and the Yeleru land scandal, they added.
`Action initiated'
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said Dr. Reddy had ordered an ACB enquiry on May 26 itself when the scandal came to light. The media reported the scandal only on May 31, he said adding that an extent of 11.79 acres of temple lands had been registered during the tenure of the Endowments Commissioner, I. Venkateswarulu.
Withdrawal of cases
He accused the TDP president, who was Chief Minister, had withdrawn 225 land grabbing cases pertaining to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams lands covering 584 acres in Tirupati. Mr. Reddy said the TDP, which had constituted a committee to probe the temple land scam, should come out with details on the involvement of the Chief Minister and his son. He said the same committee should also probe the alienation of temple lands during the TDP regime.
