LUCKNOW: The All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) on Wednesday demanded that the Central Government facilitate setting up of Shia Waqf Board in all the States on the lines of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. ``If we can have Shia Waqf Boards in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, why not in all other States,'' the Board meeting said here. The Shia Waqf Board was necessary to prevent exploitation of the Shia community in various matters, the meeting said. Other Waqf bodies were misleading the people hence the Shia Waqf baords were the requirements of time, the meeting resolved. The day-long Board meeting, presided over by Maualana Mirza Athar and attended by ulemas and clerics from different parts of the country, also placed on record its condemnation of the incident where the Holy Quran was insulted by the US soldiers. A resolution in this regard said since Pentagon had admitted to the incident, it was expected of the US to severely punish the guilty. The meeting also urged the Uttar Pradesh Government to ensure such incidents never took place in the State as well. The meeting of AISPLB had been convened to discuss and approve the constitution of the Board. Expressing serious concern over growing incidents of sectarian violence targeted against the Shia community in Pakistan, the newly- constituted Board urged its President Parvez Musharraf to take stern steps against those responsible. ``Shias are being targeted in Pakistan...,'' AISPLB chairman said and urged the Pakistan Government to take action against those Madrasas reportedly spreading hatred against the Shia community. The Board also took serious note of Shia killings in Nigeria and urged its Government to curb them. PTI/UNI
