Advani a true patriot: Waghela

Manas Dasgupta

AHMEDABAD: Union Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Waghela on Wednesday criticised Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia for calling BJP leader L. K. Advani a "traitor.''

Mr Waghela, who is credited with building up the BJP in Gujarat, said though Mr Advani's "total U turn'' in Pakistan was not acceptable to the Sangh Parivar, it was improper to call him a traitor.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Waghela, who was in Bardoli in Surat district to attend a function, said a staunch Hindu leader like Mr. Advani was suddenly trying to don the garb of a secular leader. It was the inherent contradiction within the sangh ideology that led to Mr. Advani's resignation. He was a true patriot and should not be termed a traitor, Mr. Waghela said.

No one should be allowed to get away by using abusive language against any leader.

"It is time people are accounted for what they say about others,'' he said.
