Fruit merchant murdered

A fruit merchant, Venkatesh, 38, was allegedly strangled to death by his wife, Vijaya Laxmi, and her paramour, Shaik Mastan, on Tuesday night at Bansilalpet in Gandhinagar.

Mastan came to Venkatesh's house on Tuesday night and the duo consumed liquor. While Laxmi claimed that she found her husband dead on Wednesday morning, the victim's mother, Kausalya, charged that the former got killed his son. "Though there are injuries on the victim's throat and private parts, we registered a case of suspicious death and alter the case after receiving post-mortem report", the police said.

Businessman held

The Panjagutta police on Wednesday arrested a businessman, Jitesh, 26, in connection with firing incident in Easy Rider pub reported on Sunday.

A resident of Banjara Hills Road No. 12, Jitesh picked up a quarrel with the Disc Jockey of the pub in an inebriated condition, the police said.

Later, he called in his younger brother, Jivesh, 22, to settle score with the DJ.

Jivesh came to the pub with his father Jnan Agarwal's licensed .32 Smith and Wesson revolver and fired at the shelves in the pub to scare the DJ and threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm. Jitesh is absconding.

Welder killed in mishap

A welder, V. Bhikshala Rao, 40, died when the fuel tank of a bus hired by the APSRTC blew up while he was welding it on Wednesday at Kukatpally.

The bus driver approached the victim saying diesel was leaking from the fuel tank. The blast occurred as the welder tried to weld the fuel tank without emptying the diesel, the police said.

Succumbs to burns

A lorry driver, Laxman, 28, who set himself afire on Sunday allegedly after his master abused him for not paying back the Rs. 50,000 loan he had taken, succumbed to his burns on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital.

A resident of Ambedkar Colony in Tarnaka, the victim was reportedly dejected after his lorry owner, Ram, took him to task for not repaying the loan amount.
