Gang assaults merchant's staff, takes away cash

BANGALORE: An armed gang assaulted three employees of a rice merchant and robbed them of Rs. 90,000 in cash in the Fraser Town Police Station limits on Tuesday. The police said the incident took place at Vigneshwara Rice Traders, owned by Shankar, in Jaya Bharath Nagar. Around 8 p.m. Shankar's three employees, Bayya Reddy, Bharath and Gopi, rolled down the shutters of the shop and were about to leave for Shankar's house to hand over the daily cash collection, when the three men tried to snatch the bag containing Rs. 90,000 in cash from Bayya Reddy. When the employees resisted, the robbers attacked them with weapons, snatched the bag containing the cash from Bayya Reddy and escaped in an autorickshaw. Bayya Reddy, Bharath and Gopi, who were injured, have been admitted in hospital. The Fraser Town Police have registered a case.

Robbed

Three men waylaid a software engineer and robbed him of a gold ring, a mobile phone and Rs. 800 in cash in the Commercial Street Police Station limits on Monday. The police said that around 8 p.m. Shekar Sahu, a software engineer with a company on Cunningham Road, was walking towards the Shivajinagar bus stand when the three men stopped him near the Gosha Hospital on Park Road, threatened him with a knife and robbed him of the valuables and the cash. The Commercial Street Police have registered a case.

Assaulted

Three persons were assaulted in a clash between the employees and customers of a hotel at Bommanahalli in the Madivala Police Station limits on Tuesday. The police said that around 10 p.m. two drivers working for a call centre assaulted a waiter at the hotel after having their dinner there.

In retaliation, the hotel employees assaulted the two drivers, Gopal and Shivaswamy. They also assaulted another customer, Manjunath Reddy, assuming that he was a friend of the drivers. The three have been admitted in hospital. The Madivala Police have registered a case.

Recovered

The Vijayanagar Police on Monday arrested Mehaboob (19) of Marenahalli on the charge of stealing vehicles and recovered from him an autorickshaw and a moped. The accused had stolen the vehicles from the Vijayanagar and the J.C. Nagar police station limits, the police said.

In another case, the Subramanyapura Police on Wednesday arrested K.M. Arun Kumar (23) of Konanakunte on the charge of stealing vehicles and recovered from him a car.

Arrested

The Kamakshipalya Police on Tuesday arrested two youths who had allegedly murdered Gangaraju (22) at an eucalyptus grove in Sunkadakatte on May 22. The names of the arrested were given as Nagendra (20) of Sunkadakatte and Gopi (20) of Hegganahalli.
