BANGALORE: The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, on Wednesday directed the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to allot equal grants to its 100 wards for the overall development of the city. "There should not be any bias in allotment of ward-wise grants. In fact, the BMP Council should frame a policy on equal allotment of grants," Mr. Siddaramaiah said. He was speaking at a function organised by the BMP to distribute free tailoring machines to beneficiaries and inaugurate several developmental works in Kamalanagar. The Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that some wards have become "model wards" while some others did not even have basic civic amenities. "If we want the city to develop, we should ensure that the 100 wards get equal importance. This is possible only if the each of 100 wards get equal grants for development," he said. "Please mend your old ways. Do not asphalt the same roads that were tarred last year. If you take up roads every year that have not been tarred recently, then all the roads in the city will become motorable," he told the BMP engineers. Stressing that he will speak to the Mayor, R. Narayanaswamy, and the Commissioner, K. Jothiramalingam, about this, Mr. Siddaramaiah told the Kamalanagar corporator, M. Shivaraj, that he would speak to the Revenue Minister, M.P. Prakash, in connection with the proposal to convert the Kurubarahalli playground to a park. Responding to the residents' request for increasing the frequency of city buses to the area, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned.
