ERODE: The ban on fishing in the Orathupalayam Reservoir continues and violators will be punished stringently, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons, the Collector said as per the directions of the Madras High Court, 40 cusecs of water was being discharged from the Orathupalayam Reservoir into Noyyal River. The discharge would continue for five days from the night of June 7. After that, water supply would be stopped for seven days and again water would be released for five days and the pattern would continue. He said as the fish in the reservoir was contaminated, the ban was ordered on fishing and selling. He said that at present the Reservoir was getting a meagre inflow. Public need not panic over the stability of the dam. It was very good, he said.
