ERODE: With an aim to enrol all the eligible children in schools, the district administration has begun a special Intensive Motivation Campaign in the district on June 9 and 10, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Thursday. At Ganapathypalayam, 15 km from Erode, the Collector conducted a door-to-door campaign and got enrolled two dropout students in school. In the district, as many as 1,874 primary and middle schools were functioning. Last year, schools enrolled 20,475 boys and 18,428 girls and this year it had been proposed to enrol 45,000 children.
Admission to be verified
The Collector said already the Village Education Register System had been introduced in the district and Village Education Committees formed. Members of the committee and teachers in the schools in the respective areas would collect the list of children between the age group of 5 and 14. They would register the details in the Village Education Register and verify about the admission of eligible children. If any child was left out, the teacher and the committee members would visit the parents, motivate them and get their children enrolled in schools.
Dropouts
The Collector said the number of dropouts during last year was 5,682 and efforts were taken to enrol them also in schools this year. He said 934 children, who were rescued from child labour, were admitted to the 28 Special Schools. He said an official in the rank of the Deputy Collector would be in charge of each Panchayat Union. He, along with 40 other officials belonging to Revenue, Agriculture, Development and Education departments, would conduct the campaign in the respective Panchayat Unions. In Ganapathypalayam area, the Collector went to the house of Pachamuthu, a sixth standard dropout, and admitted him in the Government HSS assuring him all help. A woman appealed to the Collector to enrol her son, Parthiban, in sixth standard as her family came to the area only three days ago. After verifying his records, he ordered the officials to enrol Parthiban in the Higher Secondary School.
