AJMER: A Central Reserve Police Force jawan was shot dead allegedly by a guard inside the central jail here on Thursday, the police said. Havildar Mohammad Samirul Mandal was on a routine inspection of security posts around 3.45 a.m. when guard Jairatan Pandey opened fire. Mandal suffered injury in the stomach and died on way to hospital. Pandey claimed that he opened fire as Mandal did not respond to his call to identify himself. He said he could not recognise the jawan in the dark. UNI
