Autodesk bets on 3D market

Shanthi Kannan

To expand marketing support

CHENNAI: Manufacturers today use computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer aided engineering (CAE) tools to design from pens to jewellery.

Using CAD/CAM tools, manufacturers are able to reduce their time-to-market by over 40 per cent, which gives them a competitive advantage, says Ken Bado, Senior Vice-President (Worldwide Sales), Autodesk Inc.

The U.S.-based Autodesk is a $1.23 billion design software and services company for building, manufacturing, infrastructure, digital media and wireless data service fields.

The company has launched Autodesk Inventor Series (AIS). The AIS is a combination of 2D software (AutoCAD and AutoCAD Mechanical) and 3D software (Autodesk Mechanical Desktop and Autodesk Inventor) design applications.

With the demand for digital design solutions growing rapidly, it is expanding its sales and marketing support for India and also its channel network to meet this challenge.

With India becoming an important destination for manufacturing outsourcing, SMEs have recognised the need to adopt state-of-the-art technology to stay competitive in the global market and be on a par with their principals," says Yves Dehouck, Senior Solution Sales Director (Asia Pacific), Autodesk.

Having realised the need for trained manpower, these companies have started partnering with local institutions for imparting training to students, according to Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, SAARC Region, Autodesk.
