TIRUCHI: : Several students watched with enthusiasm and interest various exhibits and models kept inside the `Vigyan Rail', a specially designed train highlighting the developments achieved by the country in the field of science and technology since Independence, which arrived at Tiruchi Fort station on Thursday. The special train will remain in the Fort Station till June 11.

The train with 18 coaches has a diverse range of exhibits, illustrative posters and models kept inside 12 coaches all of which highlight the achievements in different areas such as agriculture, health and medicine, space, information technology, environment, defence and atomic energy.

The `Vigyan Mail — Science Exhibition on Wheels' is a unique initiative by the Department of Science and Technology utilising the vast railway network to extend the message of science and technology to wide sections of society, especially children and youth. The initiative is basically aimed at developing a scientific outlook and update the students on the scientific and technological progress made in various fields.

The `Vigyan Mail', which is currently on its second trip touring the length and breadth of the country, left New Delhi on April 26 halting at select stations for three days at each place. During the course of its run, the special train would cover 26 cities all over the country in 72 days. Till now, the train had covered 16 cities, says Dunstan Mcness, coordinator of `Vigyan Mail'. The initiative had been taken to reach out to maximum number of students, he added.

The train would cover places such as Madurai, Nagercoil, Quilon, Wardha, Bhusawal, Ujjain, Surat, Bhavnagar before reaching New Delhi on July 10.

The Chief Educational Officer, Bhaskara Sethupathy, inaugurated the exhibition at Tiruchi Fort station.

There is no entry fee and the train will be open for public between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
