THANJAVUR: The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, has appealed to Adi Dravida people to become entrepreneurs making use of various Government schemes available to them instead of waiting for getting employment. Inaugurating a seminar on creating awareness about Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida Housing Development Corporation's (TAHDCO) various programmes here on Wednesday, the Collector said that Adi Dravida people were not aware of the schemes implemented by the Government. Last year the Government introduced a special scheme for purchase of lands by Adi Dravida people. As per the scheme a subsidy of Rs.2.5 lakhs would be provided to help Adi Dravida people purchase lands. This year also in the district the beneficiaries have been selected for this scheme, the Collector informed. By utilising such schemes Adi Dravida people could improve their standard of living, he felt. Owing to illiteracy and lack of infrastructural facilities Adi Dravida people did not have knowledge about various welfare schemes available for them. Many welfare schemes were implemented through women self-help groups. A subsidy of Rs.2.5 lakhs was being given to each group, he said. S.K. Sampath Kumar, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam and P.S. Nageswaran, District Manager, TAHDCO participated in the meeting.
