BANGALORE: Chiragh Kumar stayed in the lead for the third successive day in the Eagleton Amateur Golf Championship 2005. The ONGC-sponsored Delhi golfer however had only a par-72 score for the third round and had his lead over Vikrant Chopra reduced to just two strokes. Vikram Rana made his move on the penultimate round with a brilliant card of six under 66 to occupy the third spot six behind the leader. The final day's play will be interesting with H.S. Kang, Simarjeet Singh and Himmat Singh Rai just seven strokes behind Chiragh Kumar. Thirteen golfers submitted below par scores for the third round. Chiragh Kumar started off well with a birdie on the first hole. He had six birdies in all but after two days of bogey-free rounds, the Delhi golfer dropped his first shot in the tournament on the second hole. Chiragh recovered with another birdie on the third but on the par three 17th he landed twice in the water hazard to end up with a triple bogey. Chiragh had miscalculated the distance the first time and with the penalty drop found himself in thick rough unable to get a clear shot. Chiragh's lead had dropped to one stroke after the 17th but another birdie on the 18th took him back to a two-stroke lead. The six birdies on the card were nullified with three bogeys and the triple bogey on the 17th. Vikram Rana fired six birdies, five of them coming on the inward journey and coupled with a bogey free round, the Delhi-based ONGC amateur slipped into the third position. Vikram putted with élan on the penultimate day and hoped to keep up the form in the final round. The results (third round): 1. Chiragh Kumar 203 (64, 67, 72); 2. Vikrant Chopra 205 (70, 66, 69); 3. Vikram Rana 209 (71, 72, 66); 4.H.S. Kang 210 (71, 69, 70), Simarjeet Singh 210 (70, 68, 72) and Himmat Singh Rai 210 (70, 67, 73); 7. Manav Das 212 (74, 70, 68) and Raj Randhawa 212 (74, 70, 68).
