Congress worker hacked to death

THRISSUR:
A Congress worker was hacked to death in front of an upper primary school at Thanikkudam near Viyyur in broad daylight on Thursday allegedly by a group of CITU sympathisers.
The police gave the name of the deceased as Mathakkappilli Verghese (52). He was president of the Congress committee of Ward 12 in Madakkathra panchayat and owner of a quarry.
He was attacked when he was coming to the city in an autorickshaw along with two workers in his quarry. The assailants who came in an autorickshaw intercepted him and hacked him to death.
The quarry workers also were attacked when they tried to resist the assailants.
