KOLLAM: The District Administration has announced taking strong measures for effectively implementing the 45-day ban on monsoon time trawling. This was announced after an ad hoc meeting called by the District Collector, B. Sreenivas, here on Thursday. The ban comes into force at midnight on June 14. As a prelude to the ban, announcements on the trawling ban coming into force will be undertaken from Paravur to Azheekal on June 13 and 14. At midnight on June 14, steel chains will be strapped through the pillars of the Neendakara Bridge in order to prevent entry of fishing vessels into the harbour area from the eastern side. Patrolling will be intensified at sea, especially at the Tangassery and Vady areas in the city. From June 14 midnight, the diesel pumps on the banks of the Ashtamudi River catering to the fishing boats are banned from selling the fuel. All mechanised fishing boats registered outside the State will have to leave Kollam waters by June 13.
