MUMBAI: Property developer Suresh Raheja, arrested by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) on charges of customs duty evasion, was on Thursday released on bail subject to certain conditions. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S.S. Shirke, granting him bail on a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh, asked him to surrender his passport and report at the AIU office everyday from Monday to Friday for five hours until the probe was over. Mr. Raheja was arrested on Wednesday night at the international airport on his return from London. He was found carrying jewellery and watches worth Rs. 20 lakhs and was held for evading payment of duty. The prosecution sought seven days' police custody for him and asked for permission to impound his passport. It argued that the AIU was yet to complete the valuation of the goods seized from him. PTI
