MADIKERI: The president of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, Chitra Ramesh, on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the transfer of government school teachers in Kodagu district recently. The probe will be conducted by a team comprising the chairpersons of the three standing committees of the zilla panchayat, and members of the Opposition V.P. Shashidhar and Hosur Satish Kumar Joyappa of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Prasanna of the Bharatiya Janata Party, she said. Mr. Shashidhar alleged that there were irregularities in the transfer of teachers. The in-charge deputy secretary, Ramachandraswamy, who is the chairman of the committee, said as many as 114 teachers were transferred on various grounds. The Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Sampath Kumar, defended his position and said that the process is transparent. C.S. Arun Machaiah, MLC, wanted to know for what purpose the funds under the minimum needs programme was used in the last few years. The chief executive officer, K. Sundar Naik, said that the funds were mainly utilised for Integrated Child Development Schemes.
Re-posting of doctors
The issue of re-posting of two doctors, who disappeared from the Shanivarasante Community Health Centre recently after a man died of rabies, figured prominently in the meeting with several members demanding the suspension of the doctors. Mr. Machaiah said he had spoken to the Minister of Health, who has reportedly directed a medical officer to look into the issue. The vice-president, Papu Sannayya, alleged that a woman in Polibetta had died due to the negligence of a doctor at the PHC. He wanted the zilla panchayat to order a probe.
