CHITRADURGA: The Deputy Commissioner, S.R. Umashankar, has instructed district officials to take steps to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases such as malaria. Addressing a meeting of the committee formed to coordinated measures against malaria here on Wednesday, he directed officials to take up a campaign to educate people in rural areas about the measures to be taken to prevent malaria. To create awareness among the people, the district administration is planning to observe "Malaria Prevention Month" shortly. Street plays and seminars will be organised to educate people. People's representatives should be involved in such programmes, he said. Members of gram panchayats will be given a day's training at primary health centres about the disease. They should be educated about hygienic practices, he said. So far 16 cases of malaria have been reported this month. No deaths due to malaria have been reported in the district, he said.
