Terms Health Minister's statement `baseless and mischievous'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Public Service Commission chairman M. Gangadhara Kurup has termed `baseless and mischievous' Health Minister K. K. Ramachandran's statement that doctors' vacancies in Government hospitals are remaining vacant on account of the political machinations of the PSC chairman.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Kurup said that contrary to what had been alleged by the Minister, the Government and the Health Department were not reporting doctors' vacancies promptly or taking any other measure to ensure that the vacancies are filled without loss of time.

The PSC had invited applications, conducted examinations and interviews and prepared ranklists even when an earlier list was in existence only because its eagerness to ensure that the vacancies were filled promptly, he pointed out.

Mr. Kurup said it had always been the practice of the PSC to issue advice memo to the required number of candidates whenever the Director of Health Services (DHS) reported vacancies.
