MYSORE: An underground drainage system will be constructed at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens here at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.5 lakhs. In a press release issued here, the Executive Director of the Mysore Zoo, Manoj Kumar, said the project is being taken up to connect the earlier drainage lines and to dispose of the effluents outside the zoo.
CZA to provide funds
The construction work will be taken up in the Kensington Park area and will be funded by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA). The drainage of every enclosure is connected to a soak pit constructed near the enclosure. The soak pits are maintained by periodically removing the accumulated waste. During monsoon, the soak pits overflow causing unhygienic conditions on the premises of the zoo. But the new underground drainage system is designed to bear the increased load anticipated in the wake of the expansion of the zoo and will provide for the next 25 years, Mr. Manoj Kumar said.
