NEW DELHI: Drawing attention to increasing incidence of violence against women in the city, especially students from the country's North-Eastern States, the Manipuri Students' Association staged a demonstration outside the Delhi Police headquarters here on Thursday. Accusing the police of failing to ensure security for women, the Association said despite recent cases of rape, nothing was being done to make girls feel secure. While pointing out that the fight was not just for girls from the North-East but also those from across the country, the Association called for better security in the Capital. "Just because we look different and are from a geographically different location does not mean people can harass us or say nasty things about us. We often hear people saying that we court trouble because of the way we dress, but then this is the way we are. Instead of getting sympathy why are we always being targeted,'' asked one of the students who was part of the protest. Taking a serious note of the issue, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) too will be taking out a silent march on the North Campus on Friday.
