Postal stamp

NEW DELHI: The Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes, announced on Thursday that the Government would issue a postal stamp in memory of the great warrior of Indian history, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.

Speaking on the 289th Martyrdom Day of Baba Bahadur at Shah Auditorium here, Mr. Fernandes said "the great warrior had shown us a new way of life through which we can serve our country in a better way".

The function was organised by the All-India Bairagi Vashnav Maha Mandal. The speakers included former All-India Youth Congress president Manish Tiwari.

Tributes to journalist

NEW DELHI: Rich tributes were paid to the veteran journalist and All-India Newspaper Employees' Federation leader, Pramod Kumar Sharma, at a condolence meeting organised here on Wednesday.

Mr. Sharma passed away on June 4 after a prolonged illness.

He was 73

Associated with the newspaper employees' cause for over 40 years, Mr. Sharma had held several positions in the Delhi Union of Journalists, Times of India Employees' Union, and Delhi State Newspaper Employees' Federation.

New appointment

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president, Rajesh Lilothia, on Thursday took charge as Chairman of the District Development Committee (West District) at Ram Pura in the Capital.

Thanking the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, for appointing him to the new post, Mr. Lilothia said he would work with sincerity and dedication.

"We will form the committees Assembly constituency-wise so that there is better coordination with the local MLAs," he added

Sikh convention

NEW DELHI: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) will hold a National Sikh Convention at Mavalankar Hall here on Sunday to discuss the problems of Sikhs in India and abroad.

According to the general secretary of the Dal, Onkar Singh Thapar, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal, and the Shiromani Akali Dal president, Bibi Jagir Kaur, will attend the one-day convention.

Impersonation

NEW DELHI: A man who impersonated as an MCD employee to stand surety in a criminal case by forging documents was on Thursday remanded to two days police custody by a City Court.

The Metropolitan Magistrate, Rajneesh Gupta, allowed the custodial interrogation of Jitendra alias Hira Lal to ascertain whether he belonged to some racket involved in arranging fake surety.
