BHUBANESWAR: The Communist Party of India has said that the controversy over Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani's remarks on the Pakistan founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, would deepen the crisis in the party. The BJP had been in disarray since its defeat in the last general elections, CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan told a press conference on Thursday. He said Mr. Advani's remarks on Jinnah had struck at the very roots of the ideology the BJP leaders and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ranks had been brought up from day one. "Mr. Advani had done nothing wrong by quoting from Jinnah's speech on August 11, 1947 where he spoke of a secular Pakistan. However, he forgot to emphasise that Jinnah was one of those who were responsible for the Partition,'' Mr. Bardhan said. Stating that Mr. Advani's remarks did not amount to giving up Hindutva, he said that the BJP would continue its stand even if Mr. Advani gave up the party president post. The BJP and the RSS could not leave each other, he said.
