Children's village inauguration tomorrow

THRISSUR: The Thrissur Corporation is starting a Children's Cultural Village at Aanakkulam near Mannuthy for nurturing the creative potential in children.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, chairperson of the Town Planning Standing Committee of the Corporation Lizy Francis, project convener C.R. Das and Deputy Mayor P.S. Johny said the village would strive to build up a collective spirit among the children. The focus would be on the overall development of the children and the village would seek to provide inputs in this regard, which are not available in classrooms.

The village would have special faculties for music, dance, folk songs, and games. Simultaneously, there would be programmes for enabling the students to come to terms with the modern developments in the areas of science and technology. The village would also have facilities for counselling students. The overall project cost is estimated to be Rs.15 lakhs and out of that Rs.3 lakh had been spent for the initial phase.

The programmes will be organised in the beginning as vacation classes and 200 teachers and 1,000 students will be given classes in the first phase. The village will have many facilities for making the children interact among themselves and with the nature.

The village will be inaugurated by Minister for Cultural Affairs A.P. Anil Kumar on Sunday evening.
