CHANDIGARH: The Jhajjar police, which raided the premises of the former Indian cricket captain, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, in Delhi, Pataudi and Gurgaon on Friday night, have not traced him. A case has been registered against him under the Wildlife Protection Act. The police registered the first information report against Mr. Pataudi and the others for allegedly killing an animal listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act. The carcasses of a blackbuck and two rabbits, besides a rifle, a gun and some live cartridges, were seized from Mr. Pataudi's vehicle near a wildlife sanctuary in Jhajjar last Friday night.
Summons to forest officials
The Chief Wildlife Warden of Haryana issued summons to the forest officials of Jhajjar and others on a complaint by animal rights activist Naresh Kumar Kadyan, who alleged slackness in police investigation as well as violation of the Act. The Warden has sought a copy of the original FIR and the original report of post-mortem done on the carcasses. He wanted to know on which authority the accused and their vehicles were released by the Station House Officer on the night of the incident, the authority under which investigations were being conducted by the SHO and the action taken by the local wildlife authorities and police. Earlier, the district police constituted three teams to arrest Mr. Pataudi and six others as the deadline for them to surrender expired at 5 p.m. on Friday.
