NEW DELHI: Aimed at increasing the taxpayers' base, the Delhi Circle of Income Tax Department has decided to open at least six "help centres" across the Capital to assist non-corporate and non-salaried assesses in filing their tax returns. It will be a public-private partnership project where trade associations and voluntary organisation would provide infrastructure support while the Income Tax Department would depute officials to help taxpayers. Talking to media persons, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Delhi), V S Wahi, said the centres would help taxpayers only in filing returns and addressing their queries and no returns would be accepted at these camps. Setting up of these help centres is part of the Centre's decision to facilitate those taxpayers whose net income is worth Rs.5 lakhs or less, he added. The six help centres would be opened at Karol Bagh, Okhla, Shahdara, Chandni Chowk, Rohini and Ranibagh from July 1 to September 30.
