Varsity to issue new applications for engineering courses

Staff Reporter

Move follows GO on Single Window System Candidates who had applied earlier need not apply again as their applications would be considered under the new system.

CHENNAI: The Anna University will issue fresh applications for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses from June 14. Students who had not applied so far and those who applied but did not take the entrance examination could apply for admission now, a press release here said.

This follows a GO issued on Friday that entrance examination marks would not be considered under the Single Window System for 2005-06 and that admissions would be solely on the basis of Plus Two marks. There has been no intimation so far for applications to medical and other professional courses. Candidates who had applied for engineering courses earlier need not apply again as their applications would be considered under the new system. Candidates who had applied earlier with improvement marks should submit a copy of their marks obtained in the first attempt. They too need not apply again and their applications would be processed with the first attempt marks. Apart from this, the eligibility conditions for admission and the list of special reservations remain the same as prescribed in the information brochure given along with the earlier applications.

The university had so far sold 60,000 application forms for admission under single window counselling, university authorities said. Computation of aggregate marks for the purposes of fresh ranking would be for a total of 200 marks (100 for maths, 50 each for physics and chemistry). In case of a tie, the percentage of marks scored in mathematics, physics and chemistry would be considered in succession, to be followed by the fourth optional subject under part III, date of birth or by lots. Application forms can be obtained in person from the Examination Centre, Anna University on paying Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 for SC/ST) in cash or demand draft drawn in favour of "The Director, Admissions, Anna University, Chennai 600 025." Applications can also be downloaded from www.annauniv.edu/tnea2005. The last date for receipt of completed applications is June 23.
