HYDEREBAD: Cutting across party lines leaders of various political parties vow to bring pressure on the Centre to enact a legislation for sub-categorisation of SCs in the State. Addressing an impressive public meeting at Nizam College grounds on Saturday orgainsed by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti, they promised to back the struggle launched by Madigas in the State. The meeting marked the culmination of 1,600-km Madiga Dharma Yuddha Maha Padayatra undertaken by its founder-president, Manda Krishna Madiga from Bangalore. The meeting flayed the Congress Government for ignoring the plea by Madigas to bring pressure on the Centre to introduce the bill for the sub-categorisation. The Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, faced hostile crowds. He was booed by MRPS cadre when he began his speech and explaining the State Government's stand. He tried to convey to them that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was committed to sub-categorisation. When MRPS activists shouted him down and raised slogans against the Chief Minister, Mr. Mareppa said a delegation of Congress leaders would meet the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, on June 16 and impress upon the need to pass a bill in Parliament.
